Today Mr. Bloomstrand from Illinois Ag in the Classroom came to talk with us about farming in Illinois. He had many fun things to share with the class. Ask your child about agribusiness or what an acre is. These pictures show some of the activities we did today.
Mrs. Rich spoke to the 4th grade classes about her trip to Antarctica. We had read a story about a scientist who traveled to Antarctica to study the penguins. Mrs. Rich told about her adventures and her experiences with the penguins. She even brought the coat that was given to all passengers on the ship. It was great to hear a first-hand account of such an incredible trip.
Today, we had a chance to Mystery State Skype with a classroom in the United States. Using yes or no questions, geography skills, and speaking skills, we tried to guess the state where they were located. The mystery class was also trying to guess our location. Different students asked and responded to questions, but the entire class worked to find the answers. We used computers, atlases, maps and logical thinking. Some students also took pictures and video of the process. It was exciting to be able to narrow down our guesses and finally locate them in -----New Hampshire! More pictures to follow tomorrow...
Mystery Skype! 3-15
Mr. Matt Baron, singer, songwriter, teacher and former student came by for a visit today. He performed for the 1st and 2nd grade students, and then came and did a special performance for our classroom. It was exciting for the students and for me as well! The name of his group is Future Hits and he left a CD with our class. His songs are written for children and help teach as well as entertain. We certainly were entertained this afternoon! Here is his website to learn more about Future Hits.

Today was Hobby Day! The students each shared one of their hobbies with the rest of the class. Each child brought in items that would help us understand their hobby. Then, Ms. Arnold's class came in to look at what we had on display. The students talked about their hobbies and found others that had the same interest. Take a look at some of the pictures and ask your child about Hobby Day.
